Genesis 14:22-23...Beware of Your Loyalties...
But Abram said to the king of Sodom, “With raised hand I have sworn an oath to the Lord, God Most High, Creator of heaven and earth, that I will accept nothing belonging to you, not even a thread or the strap of a sandal, so that you will never be able to say, ‘I made Abram rich.’”
In the days of Abram (Abraham) it was quite common to accept gifts or compensation from leaders or Kings for conquering territories and overcoming enemies. This most often led to servitude for the conqueror. Abram had sworn an oath to be free of such indebtedness and to be loyal only to God throughout His life. This oath saved him from the peril of the city and rulers of Sodom. We may find ourselves in a similar situation if we allow those who are not believers to shape our minds or control our lives. We must be careful what or who we allow to take control. Our allegiance is to serve God, to study and seek after His direction in our lives. When we depart from this directive we are vulnerable to the attacks of satan. Pray today that God will protect you and your family against the many barbs that come your way. Pray for the resolve that Abram possessed and pray that God will lead you through you path in life.
Blessings,
