Mark 7:20-23...Watch What You Say...

“What comes out of a person is what defiles them. For it is from within, out of a person’s heart, that evil thoughts come—sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly. All these evils come from inside and defile a person.”

For centuries many practiced religious rituals and concerns of what they consumed, what went in to the body, as part of what made them sanctified and holy or unclean and unfit to worship. While we must pay attention to that which we consume, Jesus speaks here to what the root of the problem is concerning our downfall. It is our words and our actions. It is what we do and say. They reflect the true nature of our heart. We are sinful by nature but through Christ we are forgiven and through His power we are able to overcome sin and to cast aside that which is evil. When we let Jesus work in and through us we are able to display His love and kindness, His compassion and forgiveness. Remember that your actions and your speech reflect what is in your heart. Renew your heart and renew your mind through the reading and hearing of God’s Word, you will be amazed at the results!
