Matthew 4:1-4...Look Out...

"Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. The tempter came to him and said, 'If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.'
Jesus answered, 'It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’"

Satan will attack us wherever he may find a weakness or opportunity. He confronted Jesus here when he knew that Jesus was hungry from having fasted for forty days. He tempted Christ by telling him to circumvent the supply of His Father and to make bread from stones himself. When we are tempted to forge ahead of the path that Jesus lays before us we will no doubt come across the same temptation in order to make our way forward. This is when we need to be the most attentive to God and to His direction, for if we follow our own devices we will soon find that we have allowed satan to draw us away from our communion with God. Subtle temptation is difficult to identify but we must be careful to recognize it and to thwart the attempt of the devil to interrupt our mission. Pray for strength, especially in the face of temptation.
