Genesis 22:13-14...Fear of God...
Abraham looked up and there in a thicket he saw a ram caught by its horns. He went over and took the ram and sacrificed it as a burnt offering instead of his son So Abraham called that place The Lord Will Provide. And to this day it is said, “On the mountain of the Lord it will be provided.”
The story of Abraham and Issac is well known, even outside the Christian community the understanding of sacrifice has been established, however the motivation for Abraham has been lost down through the years. Abraham feared God. The fact is that he feared God so much that he was willing to give up his only son, one that he had been waiting many years to arrive, without so much as a question or complaint. The fear of God is the beginning and foundation of wisdom. We must then assume that Abraham was quite full of wisdom. At what level do we fear God? Do we seek His guidance, His will and study His Word? Are we intrenched in the promise that was proven to Abraham that God will provide? This story was the precursor to the sacrifice of God by sending His only Son to receive humiliation and death on the cross for our sins. We rely on the promises of God and we live our lives daily to praise and honor His Holy Name. Thank You Lord for your promise of provision.
