Romans 8:1-4...Winning the Battle...

Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death. For what the law was powerless to do because it was weakened by the flesh, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in the flesh, in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.

Throughout the course of our lives, even after our salvation through Christ Jesus, we come to realize that we posses a sinful nature that is man’s destiny since Adam. Like Paul, we also wrestle with that very nature battling against our righteousness and the spirit within us. This battle is not new nor is it uncommon in our lives as Christians, rather it is the very nature of of sin and the destructive force that it bears to beat against us in the desire to crush our hope and to diminish our longing to seek after the things of God. This is why Paul called himself wretched and why he acknowledged the truth of the war we must face inside ourselves, however, he also gave us the text of today. The promise and reassurance of Christ and our salvation through His sacrifice. We need not feel powerless but rather we are strong, we are forgiven, we have hope and we are not condemned. Our Savior reigns and He lives within our hearts and lives. Praise God!
