Matthew 6:1-4...Giving is an Opportunity...

“Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven. “So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you."

You don’t have to look very far to understand that there are many people less fortunate and in need. There are needs all around us each day. As Christians we are sensitive to these needs and often spring into action to give as we are able. What we must be careful of is that we don’t draw attention to ourselves during the process. Giving is not about having someone see what we are doing but rather about the attitude of our heart. Our giving is a private matter that should not be announced in public. It is a matter between ourselves and God and that is where it should stay. Be aware of the needs around you and look upon them as opportunities.
