Matthew 5:3...Blessed are those...

“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”

This is the first of the Beatitudes given in the Sermon on the Mount. There are those that we know that seem to be poor in spirit but have taken the notion so far as to complain and whine about their lot in life. This is not what Jesus was referring to here. We must empty ourselves of our ourselves so that Christ may fill all that we have emptied. By taking this step we will have become poor in spirit.(This is a daily process and exercise)  By taking our eyes off of the lust, envy and covetousness of this world we are becoming poor and looking to Jesus to fill us with His Spirit. This is our blessing, now and forever more that we be filled with the Holy Spirit and become more like Christ.
