1 John 1:8-10...Forgiveness is yours...

"If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us.  If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.  If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word is not in us.”

No doubt along your path to salvation someone shared most, if not all, of the passage above. It contains the promise of our forgiveness and the purification of our hearts. But it also shows us our part in the process. We knew that we needed to confess our sins to receive forgiveness, but do we understand that this is something we should continue to exercise? We do not suddenly become without sin when we are saved, rather we know where to confess our sins and to whom we ask forgiveness and seek purification. Mankind has a sinful nature but we know and believe in Jesus who can rescue us from the consequence of that sin and cleanse our hearts and minds. This is the joyful news we should share with everyone, salvation through Jesus Christ.
