Jonah 1:2-3...Which direction are you going?

“Go to the great city of Nineveh and preach against it, because its wickedness has come up before me. But Jonah ran away from the Lord and headed for Tarshish. He went down to Joppa, where he found a ship bound for that port. After paying the fare, he went aboard and sailed for Tarshish to flee from the Lord.”

God had a plan for Jonah. In fact He gave specific instructions to him to go to Ninevah and preach against all that was wrong. But Jonah had convinced himself that this was not what was best and to that end he decided to basically go the opposite direction. He set out on his own course and found transportation to get where he wanted go, even though it was against where God had sent him. Jonah experienced a very unpleasant and harsh course correction for God to carry out His divine plan. When we face what we know to be the path that God has set before us we should press forward and not run away, for we know that God will be with us, providing and protecting us all the way.
