James 2:1-4... Giving a Lift....

"My brothers and sisters, believers in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ must not show favoritism. Suppose a man comes into your meeting wearing a gold ring and fine clothes, and a poor man in filthy old clothes also comes in. If you show special attention to the man wearing fine clothes and say, 'Here’s a good seat for you,' but say to the poor man, 'You stand there' or 'Sit on the floor by my feet,'have you not discriminated among yourselves and become judges with evil thoughts?"

As Christians we should excel at treating everyone as equal, without regard to their position or appearance. We are taught to love everyone we meet and to show the love of Christ in everything that we do. This requires us to show mercy where none is seemingly deserved, extend grace even though we might not feel like it and to lift up those around us by lending a hand rather than turning away. Tearing down and destroying those entrusted in our care is not what we should be doing, instead we should be building each other up and helping lift those around us to a higher level of understanding God’s love.
