Luke 1:63-66...First things First...
"And he asked for a writing tablet and wrote, 'His name is John.' And they all wondered. And immediately his mouth was opened and his tongue loosed, and he spoke, blessing God. And afear came on all their neighbors. And all these things were talked about through all the hill country of Judea, and all who heard them laid them up in their hearts, saying, 'What then will this child be?' For the hand of the Lord was with him.”
Zechariah had been silent for months and now he was free to speak. His first thoughts and words were praise lifted up to God. Surely there were many things he wanted to tell his wife and friends but his first action was to thank God and acknowledge Him for the gift of his son John and for the fulfillment of the promise of a coming Savior. Is our first thought in every situation to praise God? Maybe not, but it should be our goal. When we come to the realization that we are not in control we are able to spend more time in prayer, praise and sharing with others.
